Flynn’s diagnosis of high-risk Hepatoblastoma happened very unexpectedly and his life suddenly changed as he immediately started an aggressive course of treatment that included 11 rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove 70% of his liver. He was 21 months old when we learned he had cancer.
The suddenness of his diagnosis created a whirlwind in our lives, and we felt so fortune to have an amazing team that supported our family while also providing the best possible care for Flynn which allowed him to be successful in his battle against cancer.
Through it all, this amazing little boy continued to show inner strength and pure JOY! In our darkest moments, he was still laughing and continuing forward with positivity. That is Flynn's magic.
If you have never walked the halls of a pediatric cancer ward, you are blessed. Sadly, many families learn of a pediatric cancer diagnosis every single day and they, like us, start a whole new life journey in the blink of an eye. Inspired by the work at Children's Hospital Colorado, and in honor of Flynn, we want to help ensure that all families facing a cancer diagnosis with their child are able to receive the same level of care we did.
The purpose of The Flynn Fund will be to provide support to families whose children require services that are not covered by insurance. After what we have witnessed this year, to know that there are families who struggle to access the care for their child that would allow them the best hope for survival is unthinkable.
