Peyton Palermo has a big goal: To raise two million dollars for Children’s Hospital Colorado. Peyton, now age 27 and thriving as a young professional, was initially diagnosed with a brain tumor at age five. After the tumor was successfully removed, Peyton went on to find success as a junior tennis player. However, the tumor grew back, and when she was 13, Peyton had another surgery to remove the regrown tumor. The surgery left Peyton with a loss of coordination on the right side of her body. She could not walk, write or catch. Her speech and eyesight were also impacted. The loss was devastating, but Peyton kept on fighting.
As part of her fight, Peyton and her family established, Peyton’s Hope, an endowment at Children’s Hospital Colorado dedicated to finding new treatments—and ultimately a cure—for brain tumors. “My hope,” says Peyton, “is to find a cure for brain tumors so that no one has to go through what I did.”
