When Cora was 13, her parents feared for her life. Her depression and eating disorder had escalated to the point of crisis. Cora was surviving on only six crackers a day but didn’t think that she needed help. Cora’s parents brought her to Children’s Colorado, where she entered a five-week treatment program at the Pediatric Mental Health Institute. With the support of an interdisciplinary team, Cora began to accept she has a mental illness and make steps toward recovery. Her life is not perfect – she will manage her depression and eating disorder her whole life – but she now has the resources and resilience to cope. Cora hopes to educate the public about pediatric mental health and inspire others who face similar struggles.
