Live Like Theo
We ride in honor of the amazing Theo Skinner.
Theo truly lived life to the fullest. He was a world traveler, foodie, athlete who loved playing soccer and baseball, swimming and skiing, National Honor Society student, writer, photographer, true friend, wonderful cousin, nephew, and grandson, and a deeply loved son.
In 2019, Theo was diagnosed with meningeal melanocytoma, an extremely rare brain tumor. He was 12 years old.
He underwent 3 brain surgeries in 2020, all while keeping his sense of humor and adventurous spirit. The day after a 14-hour surgery, Theo told his doctors that he felt pretty good and wanted to know if he could get an In-N-Out burger!
When he learned he needed brain radiation in 2021, Theo wanted to figure out how to play soccer. As we were in California, he kept up his game by playing with kids from the Stanford soccer team.
Until early 2023, Theo continued life as a typical teen and HS student. And then his tumors mutated to melanoma. He no longer could attend school and dealt with many health issues and difficult treatments.
He spent a month at Children’s Hospital in July 2023 and met so many incredible doctors, nurses, child life specialists and therapists, many who were riding in the Courage Classic. We decided as a family that we would ride in 2024 when Theo was feeling better.
Theo passed away on February 18, 2024.
In honor of our sweet boy and to help Children’s Hospital continue to fight pediatric cancers, we are riding with our close friends and family and Theo in spirit. #liveliketheo
