Evit Plowman was born November 24, 2021 at Children’s Hospital of Colorado after being diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Evit’s family was told his heart defect is the most severe defect that is compatible with life and that he’d need 3-staged surgeries that won’t fix his heart but make it functional.
Evit is 18-months old and has had 2 of the 3 surgeries. Time between the 1st and 2nd surgery is often a critical time and for Evit, this was no exception. He had several complications resulting in numerous hospitalizations, procedures and an intubation. He had his second open-heart surgery April 2022 and his family returned to Montana after they had been relocated for nearly 7-months. Evit is currently meeting all his milestones, has the smile that will light up a room and is a very loved little boy. Although Evit’s future is uncertain, he is living the most meaningful life.

I ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients like Evit. The Courage Classic is an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for kids like Evit.
The Courage Classic is a two-day bike marathon through the Rocky Mountains (approx 140 miles) that I've joined to help raise money for the Children's Hospital Colorado.
My journey has become more special because I've joined teams with the Cardiac Climbers, where the money I raise will go specifically to the Heart Institute for kids like Evit.
