Carter is a 2.5 year old girl with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome and pulmonary atresia. Her mother found out about her heart defect at her 20 week ultrasound, and chose to relocate to Denver so she could be born at Children's Hospital Colorado. She was born at 37 weeks, and was strong enough to have her first open heart surgery at 6 days old. Carter has been thriving since her heart surgery. She loves to play outside with her neighborhood friends, riding scooters, playing with chalk, and going to the park. She has no fear, and will climb the rock walls and go down the big kid slides. She loves space, and loves to find the moon every night before bed so she can tell it goodnight. She is a storyteller who loves to make people laugh with her funny stories. Her family came across a quote that talks about how pearls are “made from grit, and full of grace”. They use the phrase to describe Carter because she has been through so much in her short life so far, and has turned out to be the most beautiful soul.
