I met IV in the spring of 2022 when she was 15 months old. She was admitted to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children's Colorado with a new diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. Her lungs and heart were very sick and one day she needed an emergent breathing tube and full support on a bypass machine. There were many times I was worried she wouldn't make it or she would need additional invasive procedures. Fortunately as we increased her pulmonary hypertension medications, her health improved. After spending one month in the ICU we celebrated her transfer out of the ICU and shortly thereafter she was able to safely go home.
I was one of the doctors taking care of IV in the ICU. I was humbled every day by IV's resilience and felt so honored to be part of her treatment and recovery journey. I am so glad she responded to her medications and now at age 3, she is living her best life!
This year I'm riding the Courage Classic for IV. I am honored to work at Children's Colorado and provide care to all critically ill children in our region.
