I ride to give hope to Children's Hospital Colorado patients like Jade.
Jade just turned 2 years old in May and was born with HLHS. HLHS (Hypolastic Left Heart Syndrome) is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart in which the left side of the heart does not form correctly during pregancy. Many childeren do not survive past the first 2 weeks of life. Surgical procedures are required to repair the heart and bloodflow and Jade has already undergone 2 of 3 procedures! She is scheduled to have her open-heart Fontan procedure this summer which will allow blood flow to the lungs without having to pass through the non-working ventricle.
Jade is clearly a brave 2 year old and I am honored to be able to ride for her this year. Jade love Disney movies and loves to sing along to the songs in the movies as well as spend time outdoors getting into anything she can. With her surgery Jade will be able to be able to enjoy life to an even more full level!
Jade will not be the last child to face a life-threatening heart condition, and her family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children. I will be riding both days this year and a total of 162 miles between the 2 days and 14K feet of elevation gain. While this will be 2 big days of riding it is worth it to me to support Jade and the bigger challenges she faces in the coming months to be able to live to her fullest ability.
Any donation you can afford would be appreciated by both Jade and I.
