For the third year in a row, I will be riding the 80 mile Copper Triangle loop to raise money for Childrens Hospital Colorado. The ride will crest three mountain passes and conquer a total of 6500 feet of elevation gain. I hope you’ll consider joining me by making a donation as I go the distance for children’s health.
The Courage Classic Bicycle Tour is the single largest gathering of people coming together to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado. The Psyched to Climb team will be riding to raise awareness and support children in Colorado with mental health challenges.
It is more important than EVER to raise awareness and support youth facing mental health challenges – especially here in Colorado:
• 40% of teens in our state struggle with mental health challenges and less than 50% of these kids will ever receive ANY form of treatment.
• We have seen a 64% increase in mental health visits from 2019 to 2021 and a 215% increase in suicide plans and attempts in our Emergency Department.
• In 2021, Children’s Hospital Colorado's President and CEO, Jena Hausmann, declared a State of Emergency in Colorado as suicide is the leading cause of death in youth 10-19 years old.
• Waitlists are running 6-12 months for outpatient services due to a 30% turnover in the mental health workforce in Colorado.
Suicide conitnues to be the leading cause of death in Colorado for kids ages 10-24. One in five youth are affected by mental illness and only one of three of those affected receive mental health services. On average, youth struggle with symptoms of mental health issues for eight to 10 years before accessing care. We know that early access to quality mental health care significantly improves outcomes, so we need to let families know it is necessary to speak up and seek services for their children.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
