The Courage Classic Bicycle Tour is the single largest gathering of people coming together to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado. The Psyched to Climb team will be riding to raise awareness and money for all Colorado children with mental health challenges.
As of late, Children's Hospital Colorado has declared a state of emergency regarding pediatric mental health.
For those of you who have been involved with our team from the beginning, you’ve known the harrowing facts. Suicide is the leading cause of death among Colorado youth ages 10 through 19. Pre-pandemic, the number of youth coming into PMHI (Pediatric Mental Health Institute) was already unfathomable. Now, the numbers keep increasing. In 2021, PMHI served over 14,000 children and the Outpatient Clinic had over 24,000 visits. This is a 40% overall increase in psychiatric Emergency Department visits system-wide compared to in 2020.
Suicide rates in our youth population are at AN ALL TIME HIGH. Our state has seen a 90% increase in demand for behavioral health treatment in the past two years. Colorado is in a full blown crisis and we have reached a tipping point in our ability to address this crisis.
I'm working to make a difference through the Courage Classic. I aim to drive awareness and financial support for the care of children and families who require early prevention, ongoing therapy, and access to the medical professionals who can make a difference for kids who need it most…for the kids who have a much larger mountain to climb.
Whether you ride or not, there’s a way to help the cause.
