This will be my fourth year riding in the Courage Classic and I am dedicated to riding 120 miles in the Rockies to support patients like Jace (pictured above), one of our amazing Heart Warriors. Jace's family shared his story (below):
Jace was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and had his first open heart surgery at 5 days old. He was in the hospital for 23 days before he was able to come home and be with his 2 year old sister. He had his second open heart surgery months later when he was 7 months old.
During Jace's first 3 years of life, his normal oxygen levels were 70-85%. The summer after Jace turned 3, he had his Fontan surgery.
He was an amazing trooper during his hospital stay and he would go for walks carrying all of his chest tubes.
He was in the hosiptal for 7 days. Jace's oxygen levels are now 86-90% and he is a very active little boy.
He loveds to run around with his sister and friends and just started playing T-ball! Jace and his family have a strong faith in Jesus Christ which has gotten them through many difficult times.
They feel so blessed to have the amazing care they have had for Jace, first at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and then at Children's Hospital Colorado.
They are also blessed by a great support system, amazing family and many resources for their mental wellness and stress.
Jace is an amazing example of the strenth and resilience of heart warrior children.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children like Jace.
