Dear Friends and Family,
In August of 2015, at the age of 13, Martha Riedel was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma. On the childhood cancer “wheel of mis-fortune” that is one of the worst places to land. Martha died on April 15 of this year; she was 20 years old.
Looking back on the nearly 7 years of Martha’s fight with cancer, our family can’t help but to have fond memories, despite the numerous surgeries, radiation and (uncountable) rounds of chemotherapy she endured. Over those years we watched a 13 year old girl become a woman, who despite the fight against cancer did more in those seven years than some do in seventy. Martha never let cancer define her as a person, or control her. From that early age in 2015 until just before her death this Spring, she never stopped living her life. Racing and riding bikes, paddleboarding, cooking and art (most notably pottery), became her loves over that time. Had it not been for Children’s Hospital of Colorado, especially the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD), our family may not have witnessed those 7 years, and we would not have those memories. For that, the Riedel family is eternally grateful.
Please help us thank Children's Hospital by donating to our family Courage Classic Fundraiser. We (Parents Ned and Margaret, brother Sean and girlfriend Sophie) ride with the Wheels of Justice team, whose fundraising goes directly to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, where Martha received all her treatment. Martha was a top-10 Courage Classic fundraiser most years that she rode, and the number one fundraiser in 2019. It would be great if in her memory that could happen again.
Love and peace to you all,
The Riedel Family
