This is my 16th Courage Classic tour, and I'm riding to celebrate the incredible work and miracles that Children's Hospital brings to our community. I'm doing this because one of those miracles took place in 2002 after our 11-year old friend and neighbor, Paul, was diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant brain tumor.
From 2002-03 Paul was treated by an incredibly innovative and talented pediatric oncology team at the Children's Hospital. Thanks to Paul's tenacity and those treatments, Paul has celebrated 19 years of cancer-free health and happiness.
While naturally quiet and understated, after completing his treatments Paul chose to give back to Children's by volunteering as a teen Patient Ambassador. Paul's experiences at Children's, as a patient and then a spokesperson, led to his ultimate calling -- first as a Children's Hospital EMT, and now as a medical doctor and pediatrician!
Words can't describe the inspiration and pride we've experienced from seeing how Children's helped a young person, like Paul, transform a frightening diagnosis into a gift.
Thanks again for supporting my ride, and keeping the miracles at Children's Hospital alive.
Wishing you a wonderful summer, Jim
