Why I Ride!
Summits for Samantha rides again! We are thrilled to kick off our 12th Courage Classic tour! We ride in memory of our daughter, Samantha and those in our community who suffer from the type of complex genetic disease, Mitochondrial Disease.
In our 12 years, we are on the cusp of contributing $1MM to Mitochondrial research and advocacy. Summits for Samantha is the reason why there is Mitochondrial research in the Rocky Mountain region.
As a result of this funding, Colorado is sponsoring a clinical trial of a new mitochondrial drug, we have been named a Mitochondrial Center of Excellence and our clinic recently recieved an NIH grant to fund further research.
Every 30 minutes a child is born with a mitochondrial disease that will manifest by age 10. There are also 'secondary' mitochondrial diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, MS and ALS. If we unlock the mystery to mitochondrial function, we can improve outcomes for these diseases.
Important, life changing research is happening in Colorado.
All because of a bike ride and a humble team.
I hope you ride with us.
