I am riding in my 12th Courage Classic this year to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado and specifically the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
Over the years I've gotten to know many of the folks that work at CCBD--nurses, docs, nurse practitioners, psychologists, Child Life Specialists, PhD researchers, and of course many patients as well. In fact, some patients have even ended up working there!
What your donation does is enable the CCBD to fund things like clinical psychologists to work with patients and families going through an experience that can be both physically and emotionally devastating.
This money can also be used for initial small studies that may be "outside-the-box" thinking and so may have trouble getting funding from established organizations like NIH or NCI. But these new ways of looking at cures for cancer and blood disorders may revolutionize treatment, like CAR-T cell therapy has over the last 8 years.
And this year your donations are even more important, given the uncertainty around government funding for research.
