Reveling in the aftermath of the Queen’s spectacular Jubilee celebrations, Pudgy Pete is embracing his British side and doubling down on his final preparations for this year’s Courage Classic.
Team Research Riders, which Pudgy helped form 20 years and 30 pounds ago, is back in action this year! The Research Riders will be raising funds for the Young Investigator Fund, which Pudgy started a few years ago. This year, funds raised by Pudgy will go directly to three Young Investigators in Pulmonary, Surgery, and Diabetes research and will allow them the time they need to develop cutting-edge ideas and treatments. As ever, Pudgy will match your donations dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of your gift.
Pudgy’s ride this year is bold and dare we say "barking mad". On day one Pudgy will ride 50 miles with three summits of Vail Pass. Day two, he will ride 43 miles around Copper Mountain and Lake Dillion.
As ever,we know you’re most interested in Pudgy’s conditioning this year. Building on his strategy from last year, he is again, unconventionally, focused on the downhill stages. His secret this year is one shared with The Queen herself and Paddington Bear. Marmalade.
Yes, Pudgy has been ingesting massive quantities of the delicious English specialty. Not only on toast. But on everything. Ice cream and marmalade, asparagus a la marmalade, salads with marmalade, and the worst offender yet, meatballs and marmalade. Rumors abound that he has been sacrilegiously slipping the orange jam into cocktails and giving them to unsuspecting friends. Insane!
Pudgy has undoubtedly risen to the task, or at least his girth has. He claims he will be unstoppable on the Vail Pass downhill, which is probably all too true! So please consider donating by race day on July 16th!
