#thesharklost

August 6, 2024, is a day the Carlson family will never forget.

During a beautiful morning of scuba diving off the coast of Belize, the kids prepared to jump back into the water for a quick post-dive refresh.  Annabelle (15), jumped first and was immediately attacked by a large reef shark.  In that moment, we knew it was a race to save her life. After life-saving surgeries in Belize and Miami, including an amputation to her right leg, we made the trip back home to the mountains to recover.  After two days of being home, Annabelle developed a deadly and incredibly rare bacterial infection in her leg.  This is when her journey to Children’s Hospital of Colorado began. After consulting with her orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Julia Sanders, and the infectious disease team, it was discovered that Annabelle would have another fight to fight.  Over the course of 2024 and 2025, Annabelle had 8+ procedures to cure her of the infection and was on IV antibiotics for almost a year. She has made huge strides in her recovery, and she is finding her way back to the active life she loves. Although it seems her life is no longer in danger, she is still recovering physically and looks forward to a future where she can walk without the aid of crutches.

We are riding for Annabelle and kids like her that need the support to recover from traumatic injuries.  Please consider joining our team or donating to this amazing cause.  Your support would mean the world to us!

THANK YOU!
