NICU Spinning Spokes for the Littlest Folks

Spinning Spokes for the Littlest Folks is a cycling team of families, friends, and healthcare providers riding to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, this 82-bed Level IV NICU cares for some of the most medically fragile newborns, including premature infants, babies with complex heart conditions, surgical needs, and those requiring advanced respiratory support. Each year, the unit supports roughly 1,300 admissions.

What makes this NICU extraordinary is its people—a collaborative team of nurses, physicians, therapists, and specialists who provide exceptional, compassionate care while supporting families through some of their most difficult moments.

This ride is deeply personal for many of us, including families like Wren’s and Lucy’s.

Wren was born at Children’s Colorado on January 30 with complex, undiagnosed neurological challenges. Her journey has included a long NICU stay, feeding support through a G-tube, respiratory care, and ongoing therapies. While her future remains uncertain, her resilience—and the unwavering support of her care team—has been constant.

We also ride to honor Lucy, born at 26 weeks weighing 1 pound, 7 ounces. After a long and complex medical course, including severe lung disease and a tracheostomy, she remains ventilator-dependent but celebrated her first birthday this April - a milestone once thought out of reach.

Stories like Wren’s and Lucy’s remind us why this work matters. Every dollar raised helps provide life-saving care, advance innovation, and support families during their most vulnerable moments.

Our team goal is to raise $50,000+ for the NICU. If unmet, all funds will support Children’s Hospital Colorado’s greatest needs, ensuring continued impact for patients and families.

Together, we ride for our patients, our families, and every NICU graduate still writing their story.
