My niece, Caroline, was born last year and diagnosed at just a few weeks old with a severe and extremely rare genetic condition. Hers was among only about 100 cases ever recorded worldwide. It’s a condition for which there is no cure. Yet.
My sister Ann, her husband Ben and our entire family got to know a child whose soul was as bright as her red hair. Her physical limitations, while immense, were no match for the most extraordinary kind of love she fostered in all of us.
Caroline passed away in April, just over two months after her first birthday. We miss her dearly.
Over the course of her 15 months with us, Caroline received extraordinary care from the world-class physicians and nurses at Children’s Hospital Colorado. The ongoing support from the CHCO team allowed Ann and Ben to bring Caroline home and gave our family and many friends the opportunity to get to know her as the wonderful and incredible child she was.
To honor her legacy and support research to find a cure for her condition and others like it, Headwaters Group, led by my brother-in-law Ben Burke, has assembled a team to ride in the 2026 Courage Classic Bicycle Tour July 18-19 to raise funds that will support Clinical Genetic Metabolism Research at Children's Hospital Colorado.
I'd be grateful if you'd join me in donating to support this worthy cause. Thank you!
