I am supporting the Courage Classic for kids like Luca.
When Luca was just 3 months old, he took a medical flight from St Mary's hospital in Grand Junction to Children's Colorado, at the recommendation of the medical staff in the Emergency Department there. Having no diagnosis or prognosis was very scary for our family. My wife Marie, flew with Luca in the small plane, accompanied by the medical crew. Our daughter Zoe and I packed our things and drove to Denver while Marie and Luca were in the air.
After tests and imaging, we found out that Luca had a large hemorrhage in his brain from a burst artery. The Neurosurgery team was able to embolize the vessel to prevent more bleeding. From there, Luca received around the clock care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit(PICU) for two weeks. Despite all the medical team's efforts, Luca suffered a hypoxic event that caused profound damage to his brain, and he died, at just 3 1/2 months old, June 16, 2025.
We were and are devastated by his death. We are so grateful for the entire team in the PICU and the whole Children's Colorado system that support the incredible work done there.
I am riding to help raise funding and awareness for an institution that helps so many. No parent wishes to need this level of care for their child, but for those who do need it, there is no better place to be.
Thank you for your support!
