I am riding in the Courage Classic to support kids like my daughter Maya. When I was 22 weeks pregnant with our twins, we learned of Maya’s complex congenital heart defects. It was a time that felt so scary. We had no idea what to expect and the journey we were stepping into. After many meetings with various medical providers and hospitals, we were referred to Children’s Hospital of Colorado. I so vividly remember walking in to our initial conversation with yet another doctor. I cut right to the chase asking, “Is my baby going to die?” I was met with compassion, care, optimism and still the reality of her complex condition. Maya was born at Children’s and was given the best possible care I could have ever imagined. Maya received a heart transplant at 6 months old. The road was not simple. The team at Children’s saved Maya’s life multiple times. Our family is together because of Children’s Hospital and Mighty Maya is about to turn 4! We are endlessly grateful for Maya’s donor and Maya’s medical team.
