I am supporting the Courage Classic for kids like my brother Gus
When my brother Gus was 6 weeks old he suddenly developed difficulty breathing. My Mom and Dad rushed him to Children's Colorado South Campus. There it was discovered that he had a heart defect that we did not know about. He was transferred to the Cardiac ICU at the main campus via Children's One Emergency Transport.
Gus was treated for two weeks in the Cardiac ICU. He was diagnosed with a coarctation of the Aorta. He underwent several emergencies surgeries to try to save him. Unfortunately the team could not fix his heart and he died February 4th, 2024.
While he was in the hospital the Child Life team helped support me and teach me about why Gus was in the hospital. The Family Center supported my parents with a place to shower and sleep.
I miss my brother Gus a lot. It helps to talk about him being in heaven. I like to do the "Gus Gus Bike Ride" every summer with my parents to honor and remember him.
Thank you for helping children like Gus get the care, hope, and healing they deserve.
