We ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients like Elijah and Micah.
Elijah was diagnosed at 34 weeks gestational age with Hydrops Fetalis, a rare condition that leads to extra fluid in both mom and baby. Elijah was born at UCHealth Anshutz on August 10th 2022, and transferred to Children's Hospital Colorado 18 hours later to be placed on ECMO, effectively a heart and lung bypass machine. Elijah fought hard for three additional days, getting to meet all his aunts/uncles/grandparents before passing away early in the morning on August 14th, 2022.
The care that both Elijah and our family received from the gracious staff/doctors/nurses at Children's Hospital Colorado was second to none, and that is why we are riding to support their efforts. While Elijah unfortunately could not be saved, we know he would love donations in his name to help the wonderful people at Children's Hospital save other babies just like him.
Micah was born with craniosynostosis, a rare birth defect where the top part of his skull was fused prematurely. If left untreated it can cause developmental delays and restrict brain growth. The surgeons at Children's Hospital Colorado were able to perform a reconstructive surgery to correct his head shape and allow his brain to grown normally.
Micah is now a healthy toddler with no developmental issues. Because of the amazing work of all the doctors, you would never know Micah had a major reconstructive surgery. We are thankful every day for the staff at Children's Hospital Colorado. They give children access to the care they need and give families hope in unimaginable situations.
