Some rides are about the miles. This one is about the children behind every mile.
For nearly 15 years, I’ve cared for critically ill children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital Colorado. I have the privilege of helping families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I thought I understood what those families were experiencing. Then I became one of them.
My daughter, Eloise, was born with a congenital swallowing disorder and has endured multiple surgeries, procedures, and hospitalizations in her young life. This past fall after a major surgery, we unexpectedly found ourselves on the other side of the bedside during a stay in the PICU where I have spent my career. Experiencing that fear, uncertainty, and vulnerability as a parent gave me an entirely new appreciation for the extraordinary APPs, nurses, physicians, therapists and staff who care for children and families every day. I am forever grateful for the compassion and expertise that surrounded our family when we needed it most.
On July 18, I will ride 80 miles through the Rocky Mountains to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado's PICU. I’ll be carrying with me the stories of the patients I've cared for, the families I've supported and my own daughter’s journey.
Thank you for supporting this mission and for helping kids like Eloise continue to thrive.
