My little warrior!
I ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients like Kai.
Before he even took his first breath, Kai was already fighting. Diagnosed in utero with complex congenital heart disease (D-TGA, COA with hypoplastic aortic arch, and VSD) Kai’s moms left their home in Wyoming at 37 weeks pregnant and temporarily relocated to Colorado — because their son needed and deserved the best care in the world.
Kai was born at Children’s Hospital of Colorado and went straight to the Cardiac Intensive Care Institute. Within hours of his birth, he underwent his first procedure. At just four days old, his expert surgical team determined it was time for open heart surgery — a 10-hour operation that kept this tiny warrior on bypass for over four hours. When his surgeon emerged, he said it all with a smile and a thumbs up: “He takes a lickin’ and keeps on kickin’.”
The weeks that followed were filled with setbacks, resilience, and milestones hard-won. At a month old, Kai headed home to Wyoming — to his siblings, his family, and the life that had been waiting for him.
Today, Kai is a thriving three-year-old with a warrior spirit and a mended heart of gold
The Courage Classic is an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for kids like Kai.
