2026 Courage Classic Bicycle Tour: Mr. Bill LaGrange Wolfe - Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation

I am currently in Scottsdale, Arizona for medical treatment and unable to ride in the Courage Classic bike ride in Colorado. To add injury to insult I strained my right hamstring a few weeks ago and didn’t think I would be able to ride at all. However, Wednesday I asked my physical therapist if it was okay to ride some and he said I should limit actually riding my bicycle, however riding a stationary bike as much as I want is okay as long as I stop if I start feeling pain in my leg. So my plan now is to ride the Courage Classic virtually starting Saturday morning at 6am on my bicycle for an hour or two. Then when it gets near 100 degrees I’ll go to the gym and ride a stationary bike for a few hours.

Now for the good news, all five of the kids I know who have had life changing and life-saving care at Children’s Hospital are doing well and enjoying their lives.

Lala just finished 6th grade and is into skating, bicycling and has taken an interest in pickleball. Who knows, maybe in a few years she will ride with me in the Courage Classic. She likes to read poetry to her Oma/grandmother and she’s an avid fan of the Avalanche hockey team.

Nolan is an active boy who loves playing soccer, spending time with his friends and keeping up with his siblings. I see him regularly playing in his yard next door or on the sports court in our backyard. His health has been stable and his parents are grateful for that. Looking ahead there will be some changes to his healthcare and a few important decisions this next year. They are thankful to have the outstanding multidisciplinary team at Children's Hospital walking alongside them every step of the way. Their expertise, compassion and support give them confidence that they will make the best decisions for Nolan and that he'll continue to receive the exceptional care he deserves.

Lincoln is doing well but a stent in his heart has some reduced capacity due to tissue growth. He will need surgery in the coming year to remove some of the tissue or replace the stent with a larger one. He is an active kid, but he tires easily. The upcoming surgery should greatly improve his stamina by improving blood flow.

Lulu just finished 6th grade with all A’s except for a B in math. Her family moved to Seatle Washington where she now gets medical care at the Children's Hospital there. (I rode in a sister Courage Classic fundraiser there in 1993 and 1994.) She is very active playing power soccer through Seattle Adaptive Sports. She will go to camp Casey for a week this summer through a Kiwanis program. This will be her first overnight camp!!! We are sure that she will have her fellow campers cracking up at her zany sense of humor.

My fifth child who received lifesaving care at Colorado Children's Hospital is Judy who was taken to the hospital as a 1 year old with renal failure and blood clotting. The medical team at Children's quickly diagnosed here condition and provided the needed care to save her life. Judy is now 3 years old, doing well and thriving. Her life would not have been saved had it not been for Children's Hospital.

All of them are amazing kids and thanks to the Children’s hospitals they are all living rewarding lives that are as nearly normal as possible. Thank you for supporting these life-saving facilities.

However, teams which reach a certain fundraising threshold may designate the gifts they raise to support a specific Children's Hospital Colorado program or service line.
