Dear family and friends,
It is that time of year and I am participating in my 4th Courage Classic Bicycle Tour July 18. This bike ride is the single largest fundraising event for Children’s Colorado, this event helps provide lifesaving care for the 315,000+ patients served by the hospital each year. I set a goal to raise $500 because I want to help Children's Colorado ensure healthier futures for kids.
It is no coincidence that the Courage Classic is in July and Harper’s medical crisis occurred in July. Six years has gone by in the blink of an eye. From a sick kid with a feeding tube to a kid doing round offs and cartwheels in the middle of her soccer game. It is no wonder that within the last few months we have learned she has a fractured lead on one ventricle and a lead that isn’t working at 100% on the other ventricle. Despite these findings, her cardiology team is not concerned given her level of energy, her ability to keep up with her peers and do anything she wants to do. With that said, Harper will have surgery early Summer 2027 to replace her battery. They do not believe the leads will need to be changed as. While she is a tiny little diva in stature, she makes up for it in personality, spunk, grit, determination and sass. The hope is to get a few lbs on her between now and then. In the meantime, she will continue to keep me on my toes and get ready for 1st grade!
Tanner will enter 6th grade in the fall. He will attend a neighborhood school where he can ride his bike. It is a great fit for him and the bonus is that he has a few friends that already attend. Im proud of the person he is becoming. He has endearing qualities that make me proud daily but I am most proud of how he is always looking out for others.
In November 2025, Tanner had his battery changed at Childrens Colorado. After 10 years, it was time. He woke up from surgery stating he was hungry and wanted a cheeseburger. Needless to say the surgery went flawlessly and he was home that afternoon.
Taylor will enter 4th grade in the fall. Secretly I think she is excited to take over the role as big fish on campus. She continues to be our steady, strong, steadfast and nurturing one. She is the glue. She is also the fashion consultant, skin care consultant and personal assistant to me. Being sandwiched between 2 siblings with chronic medical conditions is not without challenges. However, she takes it in stride and embraces her nurturing side.
I am grateful and thankful for my community. Our story would not be successful without you all and without the dedicated team at Childrens Colorado.
