To my beloved family and friends:
This year has been A LOT for pediatricians like me.
I've focused my career on caring for those kids who have serious health challenges, whether those are things that happened "from birth" (like being born very prematurely and having chronic health issues afterwards), or things that happen along the way (like accidents, serious illnesses like cancer that can leave chronic health problems even once the cancer's gone or other genetic conditions that show up in childhood).
These are the kinds of health struggles that no parent would wish for their child to have. These are some of the bravest, most resilient, most amazing kids you'll ever meet.
The place where I work (Special Care Clinic at Children's Hospital Colorado) supports patients and families as they face these kinds of chronic, serious health challenges. The Courage Classic ride this weekend is one of the biggest fundraisers all year for our hospital.
In a year when funding cuts at the federal level are making life harder all around (in every state, really) for people with chronic conditions and disabilities (who rely on Medicaid to help pay all those bills), we need community support more than ever.
So as I pedal about 80 miles through the Rockies this weekend, put some wind at my back! Throw any dollars you can spare toward Children's Colorado, and I know it will go to good use.
Thank you for your support!
Kourtney
