I am supporting the Courage Classic so all kids have the same access to care that I did.
At 4-years old, I was a happy and active kid who had just moved into a new house and had a new baby sister. I was excited to ride my bike and explore my new area. That fall my parents noticed a lump forming on my neck and started down the path of figuring out what it was. After several doctor visits and a surgical biopsy, my parents received my diagnosis of Leukemia on Oct. 31, 2008. What should have been a fun day of trick or treating in my spiderman costume turned into a whirlwind of being admitted to Children's Hospital.
Once my diagnosis of ALL was confirmed, we set down a path of 3.5 years of treatment. Visits to Children's became a regular part of my life but it was never scary. The doctors and nurses do everything they can to make kids feel comfortable and occupied. I'm very grateful to Dr. Greffe and my nurse Florie for all the care I received and the comfort they gave my family.
This is why I am once again riding the Courage Classic so all kids can have access to care without worrying if their family can afford it.
