I am riding in the Courage Classic to support Children’s Hospital Colorado and children who struggle to breathe. The Courage Classic Bicycle Tour is a two-day annual bicycle event that brings together riders, volunteers, sponsors, friends and families to support Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Take a deep breath. For most of us, breathing is an automatic action we do thousands of times a day without a single thought. But for many children, every single breath is a battle that requires immense effort and courage.
I ride for kids like 13-year-old Angel, nicknamed "Showtime" see below. For years, Angel battled severe asthma and allergies that kept him from enjoying a normal childhood. He endured frequent emergency room visits without a clear diagnosis or relief. Fortunately, through the dedicated care of the pulmonary and allergy teams at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Angel gained access to groundbreaking biologic therapy. Today, his asthma is finally under control, freeing him from heavy steroid reliance and allowing him to live life to the fullest as an active, thriving teenager.
Angel’s story is a triumph, but many other children are still fighting. I ride for babies born with premature lungs, children fighting rare diseases like Cystic Fibrosis, and kids living with lungs scarred by severe infections, autoimmune diseases, or genetic conditions.
I participate to honor the resilience these kids show every single day, and to support the exceptional medical teams who make stories like Angel's possible. Funding from this ride provides the resources necessary to discover new cures, bring the most advanced treatments to families across the West, and train the next generation of pediatric lung specialists. Children are not just small adults—they have unique medical needs and deserve specialized, kid-specific care.
Your generosity helps children like Angel receive the care, hope, and healing they deserve. Thank you so much for standing with us and supporting this vital cause.
