I am riding in my 13th Courage Classic this year to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado and specifically the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
I'm dedicating my ride this year to psychologist Bob Casey, who joined the CCBD when Steve was there, and founded the Wellness Program. He built it into an incredible support for patients and families. He also rode the Courage Classic many times, and was a wonderful, encouraging, and fun teammate. Sadly, he died of cancer in February, and he will be sorely missed.
This money can also be used for initial small studies that may be "outside-the-box" thinking and so may have trouble getting funding from established organizations like NIH or NCI. But these new ways of looking at cures for cancer and blood disorders may revolutionize treatment, like CAR-T cell therapy has over the last 8 years.
