For 16 years, I have ridden the Courage Classic without a true personal connection.... Until now.
2 years ago in January, my daughter Madeline got sick. It started as pneumonia, then it became an abscess in her brain. She spent a total of 3 weeks in the hospital and had 2 surgeries. And don't forget, 2 months of PICC line antibiotics at home. 3 weeks is a pretty short time compared to what some families experience. But it was more than we wanted! And it was enough to get a taste of some of the amazing things The Children's Hospital does for kids. This is hard for parents, but I knew she was in the best hands possible because of what I've seen at the Courage Classic.
And it didn't stop there... Last year, Alex and Madeline had BOTH been to Children's. I'm so grateful for the work they do!
This year, I'll be in a tandem with another young rider, so excited!
