Wheels of Justice 2025 - our 20th Tour

We are the largest team riding annually in the Courage Classic, a challenging 2-day bicycle tour, covering up to 160 miles over several mountain passes and a fundraiser benefiting Children's Hospital Colorado. Funds raised by our team support Children’s Colorado’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

In 2006, a pair of impassioned attorneys decided to give back via bicycle! As they joined their first Courage Classic, they started looking for the lawyers team. When they couldn’t find one, they founded Wheels of Justice, raising a remarkable $130k!!! In the next year, we committed our team fundraising to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, starting a partnership that is unmatched.

Sponsor Partnerships

Since our inception we have been fortunate to have sponsors who agree with our mission. We have partners that support our team from $2,500 per year to $100,000 per year, and many who have been with us since our beginning in 2006. Sponsorship makes up about 30% of the funds we raise and has accounted for over $2M in research and wellness care at CCBD. We also have Partner Teams that ride as individual teams within the Wheels family so they can honor their children like Team Super Drake below. We are privileged to live in a community who cares deeply about the health and care of our children.

Lifetime Achievements and Goals

This year is all about reflection for us as we look back on our bonds forged and impacts made. With our fundraising CCBD has employed a full-time faculty psychologist (in 2010) and created the entire wellness team. This team has created a worldwide model demonstrating that cure rates are significantly higher when CCBD treats the entire patient, not just their body.

With these major breakthroughs, we have had indescribable losses as well. We continue the fight because while 85% cure rates are incredible, being in the 15% still means your child did not survive. Those who do survive often have a lifetime of side effects from their disease. This is unacceptable.

Legacy

So, what’s it all about?

Over each of the last 10 years, we have honored the memory of a child who died. Families who have mourned the loss of a child have a bond that is indescribable. Through this legacy, Wheels has become a safe place for those with insurmountable grief.

For our 20th year, we honor Martha Riedel, forever 20 years old.

Martha was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in 2015, and rode in every Courage Classic from that date on, until she died, April 15, 2022.

Martha’s BEST - “Martha’s Better Ewing sarcoma Treatment for All”

In October of 2017, Martha testified at 15 years old about the importance of using the immune system to attack cancer.

Her testimony inspired anonymous donors to fund a $1M grant to The St. Baldrick's Foundation aimed to find a cure for Ewing sarcoma. The grant is soon to wrap up and the team is hopeful to enter clinical trials soon.

The Wheels team rides as a fiery community dedicated to improving treatment and research within CCBD. We are honored to dedicated our 20th Tour to Martha Riedel. Over 200 riders strong, in 2025 we are going to break $7,000,000 celebrating our 20th ride!
