I am supporting the Courage Classic for patients like McKenzie.
Our daughter, McKenzie, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in December of 2024. She is studying biochemistry at the University of Colorado in Boulder. A fast growing tumor was found in her lower femur and chemotherapy treatments needed to start as soon as possible. Because she was 21 years old we started our first consult with an adult oncologist but due of the type of cancer and her age we quickly realized that pediatric oncology was the better route for her. She is getting treatment from pediatric oncologists in a children's hospital. While she is not at The Children's Hospital she is at a children's hospital. Her treatments have made us aware that many people must travel to Denver and stay for extended time while their child is getting treatments and surgeries. Also, that many children's cancers require extended hospital stays for days to weeks to months at a time.
I am riding for McKenzie and all the other young people fighting cancer and the amazing caregivers and doctors supporting them along the way. McKenzie will finish her treatments in August and return to CU in the fall taking a light load while she gets back her strength and stamina. She will finish and graduate in May of 2026.
