For 5 years, traveling every Winter and working at Children's Hospital Colorado, I have seen the impact the Courage Classic has had on the patients and families that walk through their doors. That's why on July 19th & 20th I will be biking 100+ miles up the Rocky Mountains - to support the hospital that provides extraordinary care, compassion and hope to countless families!
This year, I will be riding Courage Classic for patients like Addison! One morning, Addison woke up with blood in his mouth. Shocked, his parents Stephanie & Clay quickly made an appointment with his pediatrician. There, they brought up random bruises they noticed on him. His doctor immediately sent them to the Colorado Springs Campus where bloodwork was drawn with very abnormal results. Without hesitation, he was sent via ambulance to Anschutz for a further workup. Addison was admitted to the PICU on February 22, 2022 where fluid was found around his heart, a drain was placed, and the crazy long journey to diagnosis was just starting. Addison was diagnosed with an extremely rare disorder called Kaposiform lymphangiomatosis, or KLA, a life-threatening lymphatic anomaly characterized by abnormal lymphatic vessels and clusters of lymphatic endothelial cells. Fast forward 3+ years and Addison is a thriving, Harry Potter loving almost 8 year old, who will be going into gifted and talented classes next year in school. He also just happens to be the best big brother to his little brother & sister!
If you're willing and able, I would be so grateful if you'd consider a donation to this amazing cause and to this phenomenal hospital that has been my winter home since 2021. Every dollar raised supports kids like Addison and helps families like his continue to navigate complex and sometimes life long illnesses. Thank you!
Let's go PICU Peloton!
