Whenever I hear a Children's Hospital medical helicopter, I'm immediately rendered silent with a knot in my throat. I'm instantly transported to the night when our daughter, Eadlyn, then just a year and half, was loaded into the helicopter for the 7 minute flight to be admitted to the ICU with severe sepsis. Not a single minute could be spared, we were warned by the emergency crew.
In a full circle moment, I now regularly watch helicopters land on the roof of Children's Hospital as I walk between classes, often in my scrubs, as a nursing school student in the two-year BSN program. I always take a moment to pray for that child, their family and their care team's skillful hands.
My annual participation in the Courage Classic cycling event is an act of profound gratitude for the life-saving care that Eadlyn received and to ensure other kids have access to the vital expertise and medical technology when they need it the most.
