My brothers and I grew the grandchildren of dust bowl Kansas farmers on both sides of our family. My father started his education in a 1 room school house that was still standing but unused when I was a child. Our home always had the old slate chalk board from the school to practice math, practice spelling, and occasionally write lines.
My father passed away 2 year ago from myelodysplastic syndrome but had lived with the disease for 15 years through the help of the University of Colorado. My father's brother in southern CO has lived 30+ as a living related kidney transplant recipient from my father's older sister through the UC Transplant Center.
In now work as a pediatric hospitalist and pediatric nephrologist in Colorado Springs. I ride to help support the children of southern Colorado.
