I ride to support Children’s Hospital Colorado patients like Enzo.
Enzo was born with a congenital heart defect called a Right Aortic Arch, creating a vascular ring that wrapped around his esophagus and trachea. The vascular ring was compressing his trachea at 50% airflow. Repairing a vascular ring formed by a right-sided aortic arch usually involves dividing the left-sided arterial ductal ligament, and reimplanting the aberrant left subclavian artery (the artery to the left arm) to avoid aneurism as he grows. With such a rare defect there are many unknowns, but Dr. Max Mitchell at Children's was one of three cardiovascular surgeons in the country to specialize in Enzo’s rare defect. Without the amazing nurses and surgeons at the Heart Institute at CHOC, Enzo would not be where he is today. He is a thriving, growing, spirited 2-year-old with a contagious joy for life. His journey isn’t over, but with the help of CHOC, his family knows he is in the best hands.
The Courage Classic is an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for kids like Enzo.
