I am so stoked to dedicate my 2 day, and 86mi, bike through the White River National Forest to Callan Hansen!! Callan's personality has shone through since the first day. I'm a better nurse for each time I've cared for him, and it's always worth it for his smiles (and his big sister's). I'm excited to dedicate my ride to Callan, and thankful to the Hansen's for sharing their story!
" Callan is a 15 month-old, happy little boy who always has a smile on his face! In utero, he was diagnosed with severe congenital heart disease, specifically double outlet right ventricle circulation along with mitral atresia, inverted ventricles, an aortic coarctation, and a large ventricular septal defect with straddling AV valve chords. As a result of this set of defects, he was destined to become a single ventricle circulation baby, requiring a series of three surgeries over the first few years of his life. To further complicate his situation, Callan was so excited to meet his family that he decided to arrive in this world two months early. He was born in February 2024 weighing 3 lbs 2 ounces. After 50 days in the NICU, he underwent stage 1 of his surgical pathway at CHCO, a Norwood procedure, shortly followed by a procedure to place a g-tube for feeding. After spending two months home, he was back at CHCO for a successful Glenn procedure in July. Since returning home in the fall of 2024, Callan's focus has been on growth and development. He loves his therapists and care team. He is currently weaning off his g-tube and well on his way to crawling. He loves his older sister more than anything and we look forward to a few years of continued growth and development while awaiting his Fontan procedure."
