I ride for my little brother Drake!
I’m Mack, Drake’s big brother and I’m almost 6 years old.
On my 2nd birthday Drake was in surgery for his Broviac central line that would be utilized for his treatment for cancer. Two months later when Drake discharged from that first round of chemo we celebrated my 2nd birthday. The time at home together was a brief week before he had to leave again for the hospital for the 2nd round and several month stay. It was always difficult to transition to this each time it happened but we always held hope one day Drake would be home for good.
Mimi and Grandpa Op moved from Nebraska into my nursery to help take care of my brother Theo and I while my Dad and Mom alternated days and nights at the hospital that way Drake was never alone without family at the hospital. We could not go visit Drake due to the pandemic restrictions. Sometimes we could meet outside if Drake was feeling well enough and not on isolation to meet us outside for a short time.
I share a room with Drake now like I did with my older brother Theo. I take pride in being his protector. We love to jump on the beds and when Mom or Dad snuggle and read to us at night. When I have (ridiculous) requests Drake always backs me up. Drake and I love to take baths with overflowing bubble masterpieces, create enormous messes for culinary creations and crazy experiments for the sake of science of course. My mom tells me to stop growing up so fast. I think it was that year with my Mimi living with me and all that extra one on one with a newly retired elementary school teacher. I love Drake so much. I love having my family under one roof.
