Piper is a sweet, strong 18-month-old who loves parties, music and her big brother, Chuck.
She was diagnosed with Harel-Yoon syndrome when she was about three months old, a very rare mutation of the ATAD3A gene that impacts the function of her mitochondria, causing developmental delay and impacts on several organ systems. We are thankful to our team at Children's Hospital Colorado for helping us to quickly identify and treat Piper's condition despite the lack of specific information about it. These days we celebrate the improvement of Piper's heart (go Cardiac Climbers!) and a much more medically-stable condition for Piper in general. Piper has overcome many obstacles in her first 18 months and we can't wait to see what she will do next!
