I ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients like Struen.
Struen was born and post natally diagnosed with HLHS, ASD, VSD, PAPVR, and tricuspid valve regurgitation in June of 2022. After 3 open heart surgeries and 9 heart cath procedures, Stru developed heart failure requiring a heart transplantation. After waiting for nearly a year Stru received her heart transplant on July 4th and is now making incredible progress.
Riding for Stru is particularly meaningful for me because she was the very first patient that I took care of 3 years ago when I began fellowship and she was only a couple of weeks old. Over the last three years I have had the privilege to get to know her family and watch Stru grow up into a toddler. I also had the fortune to be able to be present when she received her heart transplantation. Patients like Stru, and her family, remind me of the reasons that I chose a career in medicine and pediatric cardiology.
I could not be more proud to represent her this year during the Courage Classic!
