As many of you know, 2008 was a HECK of a year for our family! I started a new job, we moved, Cate was born, and on Halloween day, Nick was diagnosed with Leukemia. He had to check into Children's Hospital that very day. It was surreal, as they sent us home to get a few days' clothing, then come back. All Nick wanted to do was ride his bike (attaboy!), so he did that while we packed. Needless to say, trick or treating that evening in the hospital was largely a bust--a real bummer for a 4-yr old.
That was the start of our treatment journey and our relationship with Children's. Through the many highs and lows of his years as a patient there, we were consistently blown away by the professionalism and compassion of everyone there. As a scared parent, there is no greater feeling than knowing that one of the best doctors in the country is caring for your child.
We were fortunate to have good jobs with health insurance. I can't imagine how hard it would be to have to consider finances in relation to the health and treatment of your child. The Courage Classic raises funds to insure that support is available for families so that doesn't have to be a barrier. That is one of the main reasons we ride.
We appreciate any support you can give in the way of a donation to our ride, and as always, we will be matching all contributions.
