I ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients and families, especially those cared for in our NICU like Crew and his parents, Cheyenne and Wil.
After a healthy full term pregnancy Crew arrived via emergency C-Section as his heart rate continued to be lost during labor. He was resuscitated for approximately 17 minutes before coming to life and has been a fighter ever since. He took an immediate flight for life to Children's Hospital Colorado where he would spend 28 days recovering in the NICU.
His early days were filled with constant seizures, trouble regulating vitals and confusion of why this had happened. When he was finally stable enough to get an MRI it revealed he had a stroke most likely just before or during labor. His brain was damaged from this stroke and a lack of oxygen while he was resuscitated which is referred to as HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy). In the NICU he received incredible care to stabilize and jumpstart his road to recovery.
Today Crew is a strong and resilient one year old who loves music, his family, and the outdoors. He visits Children’s Hospital regularly for follow up visits. We are eternally grateful for the life-saving treatment and care he received while in the NICU. Crew is already an inspiration to never lose hope and we can't wait to witness all he will accomplish and overcome.
The Courage Classic gives me an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for kids like Crew. Thanks for your support and encouragement on this journey.
