Josie, one of Children's Hospital Colorado's Heart Warrior!
This July 19-20, I will be riding in the annual Courage Classic Bike Tour benefiting Children's Hospital Colorado.
All this pedaling and climbing will take place up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with each day starting at Copper Mountain.
This year I have joined a new team, the Cardiac Climbers. This team rides in honor of the many heart patients at the Children's Hospital Heart Institute. My heart warrior's name is Josie. Here is Josie's story and photo as told by her Mom.
"Josie came into the world on July 3, 2024. Our little firecracker
weighed 4 lbs at birth! Born with the heart condition Tetralogy of Fallot, Josie was quickly transferred to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital Colorado. She had her first heart surgery at 3 weeks old to put in a shunt. After a few steps forward, a couple steps back, and forward again, Josie was ready to have her complete repair surgery on November 6, 2024. Our heart warrior's surgery went great! Less than two weeks later, on November 18, 2024 (also big sister Abby's birthday!) Josie was discharged and we finally were a family of four at HOME! Fast forward, Josie at 10 months old weighs 14 lbs! She has been making great strides with therapies and she is followed closely with outpatient cardiology appointments. Her favorite person is definitely Abby and it's adorable to watch their sister bond form! Josie's infectious smile brightens everyone's day!
