Carter's story and a 2025 update
2025 update from Carter's parents:
Carter is 20 years old now! Carter will be starting his 3rd year of college this Fall! He is doing great and loves school. He is studying criminal justice as he wants to be a police officer. He is a very hard worker and a great son, brother and boyfriend. He has a kind heart and still maintains his happy, silly, and positive personality. Everyday we are happy to be his parents. We are so grateful to Children’s Hospital as they saved our boy and took excellent care of him while doing it. Carter still goes to yearly checkups with the Hope Clinic at the Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders (CCBD) and still wants to go see “his people”. The people that made his treatments for 3.5 years bearable - his favorite nurses, doctors and support staff all had a role in that. Carter never takes life for granted and always finds the good in life. He is our hero, always.
Carter's Story:
Carter was diagnosed with T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia with CNS involvement on April 30, 2013 (top left picture is the day he and his family first learned of his diagnosis). He received treatment for 3.5 years that included chemo injections into his spinal fluid, radiation to his brain, lumbar punctures and being poked by a butterfly needle in his chest which sent medicine through his heart. In spite of the pain, he never stopped fighting and smiling (top row of pictures). That was then - this is now & WOW (pictures on bottom left/right and picture near bottom right with his family)! He loves to help people and has so much compassion - he will do well in the field. Watching him meet milestones makes his parents' hearts so happy. Carter remains in remission, woohoo, while being monitored by the Children's Hospital HOPE Clinic. He does have some late effects from treatment but he won’t let anything stop him and still has a positive attitude. His parents are so proud of him!
