I ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients and families, especially those cared for in our NICU.
Before birth, Ambrose was diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernic (CDH), a rare condition where a baby's diaphragm doesn't completely form. This meant that Ambrose had an opening between his chest and abdomen, leading to his abdominal organs protruding into his chest, limiting his lung development.
Ambrose spent the first 252 days in the NICU, needed support from ECMO (heart-lung bypass) and underwent multiple surgeries before being discharged home with his family and siblings. I had the honor of caring for Ambrose in the NICU and getting to know his parents, Katie and Nate as they navigated life in the NICU.
Ambrose is now a fun-loving 3-year old at home with his family and new baby sister. He visits Children's Hospital Colorado for appointments where I often get to catch up with how he's doing at home.
The Courage Classic gives me an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for kids like Ambrose. Thanks for your support and encouragement on this journey.
