Astrid, my wife, has been working for almost 5 years as a Sr. Medical Interpreter at Children’s Hospital Colorado. For the last several months, she has been dedicated to supporting the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Through her and the people I have been fortunate to meet, I can tell how passionate and committed they are when they talk about their work and the needs many families face.
This year we decided to ride the Courage Classic to support Children’s Hospital Colorado and the PICU team. We will be riding the Vail Pass, a 42-mile ride. I encourage you to read Astrid’s story below and hope you can help me achieve my fundraising goal which will go directly to Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Astrid's story:
"I'm thrilled to ride the Courage Classic to support the kids who come to Children's Hospital Colorado seeking health care. Courage Classic is a massive event that takes place in the beautiful mountains of Colorado and that fundraises to support the mission of Children’s Hospital Colorado of improving the health of children through the provision of high-quality, coordinated programs of patient care, education, research, and advocacy.
I am especially glad to join the PICU peloton team. I have been assigned to help the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for the last 8 months and it is a privilege to see firsthand all of the things, that seem impossible, but our providers, physicians, intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, ECMO and Dialysis specialized nurses, child life specialists, chaplains, social workers, and staff DO to heal the children and take them out of the woods.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit cares for critically ill children that come from all over the region and other countries. During my time as a Medical Interpreter covering the PICU, I have been able to help reduce the language barrier to many Spanish speaking families, and I'm in awe of the extraordinary work that this team does to provide the best possible care to ALL patients and families. These kids will not be the last to face a life-threatening illness and their families will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis.
Please join us to support healthier futures for kids."
