I am riding in honor of my son, August 'Gus' Pickard. Gus was born December 10th, 2023. He was a perfect baby. He nursed like a champ, was gaining weight, and we were working on sleeping. His big sister Maeve adored him and wanted to spend all her time with him. He loved to see and explore the world from the arms of his Dada Will.
Gus suddenly developed difficulty breathing January 25th, 2024. We took him to the Childrens Colorado South ED. We initially thought he had a bad cold, but over a few hours it became apparent there was something wrong with his heart. He was transferred to the main campus Cardiac ICU by Children's One Mobile ICU. The next day he had emergency surgery to repair a Coarction of his Aorta. Over the next two weeks we discovered multiple things were wrong with his heart. The Childrens Colorado CICU team worked tirelessly to save Gus. They were so kind and supportive of Will, Maeve, and I. Gus died February 4th 2024 when he was 8 weeks old.
