The Orthopedic Institute's Courage Classic team, Bony Express, is dedicating this year’s ride to the kick-off a research and education endowment in memory of previous Orthopedics chair, Dr. Lori Karol, who passed away last year after a tragically brief battle with cancer.
Dr. Karol was a pioneer, thought leader and mentor to many. She not only served as chair of Orthopedics here at Children’s Hospital Colorado but also served the broader pediatric orthopedic community as the first woman elected president of Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA) and Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). Fittingly, we are establishing a memorial endowment for orthopedic research and education that will promote in perpetuity the two things Dr. Karol was so very passionate about. This endowment was one of Dr. Karol’s goals when she came to Colorado and we would love to see it through to honor her memory.
